BMW has announced that it will be manufacturing electric cars. Interestingly, it will be offering them under a new sub-brand instead of under BMW or even MINI.
The new brand, which will be a platform for environmentally friendly vehicles, may include a two-wheel vehicle (ala motorcycles) and will be targeting commuters who live in large cities.
The company apparently feels that it is more than imperative to continue the development of new technologies in order to compete in the world market. To put it more simply, excessive tax penalties, along with incentives encouraging the manufacturing and sale of more fuel efficient vehicles, has forced the auto industry to go green.
