We have all been hearing that how General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler, are calling back laid off workers and re-opening plants.Well, now BMW is saying that it, too, will be increasing production in the second half of 2009.

According to a BMW exec, the German automaker intends to make at least 620,612 vehicles in the second half of this year.
To make these numbers, BMW has ended shorter workers’ hours programs while hiring between 200 and 300 part-time workers at two plants in Germany. The company also intends to add shifts to its plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

The announcement comes on the wake of reports that sales of the X5 and X6 are higher than expected, and that that sales of the models in China are “extremely good.”
