Car shoppers prowling for an entry-level model that conveys beauty, luxury, and, of course, the all-important name, won’t go wrong with the Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan. For those with a more restless spirit, the C63 fans the flames with its 451-hp V-8 and more sporty suspension. Still not enough? If power and performance are all that matter — not money, fuel economy, or any semblance of a luxury car ride — Mercedes-Benz offers the C63 AMG Coupe Black Series.
Mercedes tapped AMG, its legendary performance arm, to develop the C63 Coupe Black Series. “AMG has its roots in international motorsport,” said Ola KSllenius, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. “The new C63 AMG Coupe Black Series showcases the ongoing transfer of technology from the race track to the road.”
And how. Mercedes says the C63 AMG Coupe Black Series accelerates from a standstill to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds. Key to that speed is a 510-horsepower 6.3-liter V-8 engine, which boasts extra 50 hp compared to the standard issue C63 AMG. The engine sends power to the rear wheels through a seven-speed automatic with paddles on the steering wheel to allow drivers to manually select gears. Advanced electronics allow drivers to select between four different transmission settings ranging from comfortable cruising to all-out racing, depending on how aggressive they want to be behind the wheel. They can also fine-tune the coupe further by deactivating the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) or enabling a RACE START setting for maximum track experience.
Lightweight wheels and 19-inch tires keep the C63 Coupe Black Series planted and nimble on the race track, its real home. Mercedes also eliminates the rear seats to further lighten the coupe, though the C63 AMG Coupe Black Series can be ordered as a four seater.
The Mercedes-Benz C63 Coupe Black Series is the fourth vehicle in AMG’s Black Series lineup, which began in 2006 with the Europe-only SLK55 AMG Black Series.
