If you live in North America, you have an array of muscle cars to choose from. That’s not the case everywhere else in the world, as some markets only get Ford Mustangs with four cylinders, let alone something as hair-brained as a Dodge Challenger SRT. Then there’s the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T R-Spec, a respectable alternative for those who want a muscle car, sans the Detroit muscle. We recently spent a week with Hyundai’s first-ever rear-wheel drive sports car and found many things we enjoyed, and a few features we could live without. However, the turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 engine and its 274 horsepower made us forget about those things once we got the Genesis Coupe up and going.
The question still remains though: Can the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T R-Spec hang with the big boys from Detroit? After a week-long stay with us, we’re hesitant to say the Genesis Coupe deserves a spot with the Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, and Dodge Challenger but that doesn’t mean it will never get there. It’s heading in the right direction, but there are a still kinks Hyundai needs to work out before taking on the rest of the world. For $27,515 out the door though, the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T R-Spec is a solid purchase. Check out what we had to say about Hyundai’s first whack at a sports car in our 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe Quick Drive and then make a decision for yourself.
