Al & Ed Autosound, Cadbury Schwepps, and Ralphs Grocery Co. have teamed up again to promote their backover safety program. The program, which started last year, promotes backing one’s vehicle out of driveways safely.According to the non-profit organization Kids and Cars, over 2500 children are injured or killed each year from backover accidents with 60 percent caused by a family member driving the vehicle. States Officer Humberto Jimenez of the CHP, “The California Highway Patrol keeps a record of fatalities when unsafe backing was the primary collision factor, and the seven deaths which were documented in 2005 could have been prevented.”
The Back-Up To School Safety Program was held last year in Los Angeles. Its three major sponsors, though, have expanded it to included all Southern California. The all-day event includes tips on safely backing one’s vehicle and demonstrations of “rear view” technologies. Sweepstakes and contests will also be held on site to win gift cards worth $500.

This is a very important issue. Kudos to the manufacturers who offer back-up cameras in their vehicles for these reasons.
The Back-Up To School Safety Program is a great tool for learning better auto/driving safety.
