Azentek Personal Computers in the Car

Azentek Display

Azentek, Grand Blanc, MI, is offering a fully functional personal computer the size of a typical 7-inch navigation screen which fits like stock in the dashboard of a car. The depth of the unit is similar to a standard car audio system. It is meant to replace systems for navigation, audio, video, and communications. It can store and play music and movies for all passengers at the same time or for each passenger independently. Moreover, it allows you to write or receive e-mails and it can do engine and car performance monitoring. Accessories include a keyboard and mouse.

The device runs on a built-in Microsoft Windows Vista program and will go on sale next Spring for about $2,000 installed.

Our take? While we like gadgets, this is another example that too much is not a good thing. We hope that certain functions, such as sending e-mails, are disabled at least for the driver. Otherwise, we picture even more cars, SUVs, and trucks slowing down or swerving as their drivers try to compose their latest message to the office or loved ones.
