The Audi e-tron electric car concept first debuted at last year’s Frankfurt Motor show, then made its North American debut at this year’s Detroit Auto Show.
Now Audi has announced it will use the nomenclature “E-Tron” to designate its electric vehicles lineup.
It is said that the E-Tron is taking a modified platform and aluminum construction from the R8. The plan is for Audi to produce 100 units of the E-Tron electric sports car in an initial run at it plant in Ingolstadt Germany in 2012. An increase in the production volume to 1,000 units is already planned.
An E-Tron logo will appear on the rear of the car similar to the way “Quattro” models are designated.
