A Pennsylvania biodiesel manufacturer, Alternative Fuels, Inc., pulled a Sarah Palin and said, “Thanks, but no thanks” to a $1 million Pennsylvania State grant to start an algae biodiesel fuel plant.
The grant calls for the company to produce more than 25,000 gallons of algae-based fuel a day. Alternative Fuels has had problems producing biodiesel out of algae and is producing the fuel using waste oil instead. The company is generating enough biofuel to get a small $480 grant from Pennsylvania.
Alternative Fuels is also eligible for 75 cents a gallon from the state of Pennsylvania if it produces at least 25,000 gallons of biodiesel a month. That adds up in real money to $1.9 million a year.
