Over the next year and a half, Audi plans to roll out a completely new A3 lineup and has decided to introduce the 2015 A3 sedan first. With a starting price of $29,900, the Audi A3 targets the recently-launched Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class head-on. Destination and handling is an additional $895. The car starts at less than $1,000 over the outgoing hatchback.
The 2015 Audi A3 sedan won’t be alone for long. It will be joined by the A3 Cabriolet, TDI clean diesel, and high-performance S3 sedan in 2014, and we can expect to see the A3 Sportback Hybrid by early 2015. New standard features include Audi signature LED daytime running lamps and taillights, Bluetooth connectivity, pre-collision warning, and a panoramic glass sunroof.
Not only is the A3 lineup expanding, so is the engine lineup. Customers will have their pick of a 1.8 TFSI, 2.0 TFSI, 2.0 TDI clean diesel, and a high-output 2.0 TFSI for the S3 model. All engines are paired to a six-speed S tronic automatic transmission for better shifting flexibility and driving dynamics. A dual-clutch transmission will likely become available down the line for diesel and high-performance models.
The new Audi A3 has been designed with the American market in mind, and will feature MMI infotainment technology, Audi drive select, 4G LTE connectivity, and an available Bang & Olufsen sound system. The interior will be wrapped in the same materials found in the A8 flagship sedan, and will also offer standard leather seating. Good stuff.
