Alfa Romeo is ramping up its lineup for when it re-enters the U.S. market in 2013 and has the Mazda MX-5 in its cross-hairs. Set to come with a price tag around $37,000 the Italian auto maker is working on a roadster to replace the Brera Spider which is no longer in production. Alfa Romeo is focused on reducing the vehicle’s weight with the development of a new lighter chassis and will have more compact dimensions so it can keep pace with the MX-5.
Alfa’s latest roadster is expected to weigh-in less at less than 2200 pounds which is about 220 pounds lighter than the current MX-5. If this all comes to fruition Alfa’s two-seater will be a true successor to the ‘Graduate’ Alfa Spider which could be seen everywhere back in the 1960′s. If this roadster does make it across the pond it will be the third installment in Alfa’s stable for the states following the 4C and Giulia. Auto Express is reporting motivation for the roadster will come in the form of a turbocharged four-cylinder engine responsible for 150 horsepower.
