Chrysler Survival gets Thumbs Down from Ex Presidential Candidate John McCain

It is a good thing for Chrysler and General Motors that John McCain is not the President of the United States.

In an interview, the Republican nominee for President said that he expected Chrysler would not survive. He also restated that it was a mistake by President George Bush to bail out Chrysler and General Motors during the last days of his administration.

He complained that the bailout was done because of the power of the United Auto Workers Union and referred to it as Communism and Socialism.

Our take? Strange, since McCain favored the bailout during the 2008 campaign for President. Typical politician.

I agree that it was a waste of money to pump billions into GM and Chrysler when they should have just filed for Chapter 11 earlier. But it's a bit premature to write the obituary on Chrysler or GM. Yes, Chrysler's challenges are substantial, but so are Fiat's technology and engineering portfolio, and Marchionne's management skills. Let's revisit this a year from now.

Re: revisit. Agreed. Personally, I think Chrysler will last at least as long as it did with Daimler. After that...?
