I'll be blunt: I, too, was shocked by the Acura Advanced Sedan Concept introduced way back at the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show.
But the current iteration, now found throughout the Acura lineup including the TL, is much more sedate. (It didn't help the fact that the concept's faceplate was way, way, way too big for the corvette-esque body style.)
Back to the TL. Besides the rear (which I'll get to in a minute), I like the changes around the front wheelwells and the greenhouse. For the former, Honda exaggerated the curves giving the TL a more sporty look. Same with the greenhouse and its C-pillar.
For the longest time, the biggest criticism pundits levied against Honda/Acura is its vehicles' so-called "bland styling". Acura looked like it took it to heart and never more apparent than the TL's rear. The new design, from the creased truck lid and rear fender to the exaggerated spoiler, reinforces the car's traditionally reputation as a sporty alternative to Lexus. My only beef are the four tailpipes: personally, I think the TL would have been fine with two pipes similar to the RL.
