Ford has been on a great run recently. Its sales figures are up, it actually made a profit in a particular quarter, and it is getting good reviews in quality and reliability surveys.

Now it is being ranked as a top safety company.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, writes the Detroit News, recently named its top safety picks for the 2010 model year. Ford and Volvo received the most awards -- six. Cars that helped Ford garner its accolades include the Taurus and Lincoln MKS. Volvo got its awards for the S80, C30, XC60 and XC90. Note that the Ford Fusion and the Honda Accord were not on the list because they did not garner enough points in the roof test.

Subaru, Volkswagen, and Audi each received five. Chrysler got four, followed by Honda and General Motors who received two each.

Toyota, BMW, Mazda, and Mitsubishi did not receive any awards.
