Ford versus Honda for Hybrid Heavyweight Contender

Toyota is the number one manufacturer in the sale of hybrid vehicles. Heck, it’s been selling the Prius since the 1990s.

But numero dos, or number two? Statistics show that Ford and Honda are in a “neck-and-neck” race for the position. That may be somewhat surprising when you consider that Honda was the second auto company to offer a hybrid.

But statistics don’t lie. Motor Trend posts that Ford sold 2089 more hybrids than Honda in July of this year and 240 more in September.

The sales surge of the Fusion hybrid is said to be the reason for the great jump in sales. Ford’s hybrid stable also includes the Escape which it has been selling for years.

Who do you think will win the coveted position this year?

Ford going to be slapping that Honda's Hybrid a$$ all night long!!! HAHAHA. It's no secret that Ford is becoming twice the fierce competitor it was 5 years ago!!

Unless Honda's got a major ace up its sleeve, Ford has the edge (no pun intended) on hybrid technology. Ford's system is very similar to Toyota's HSD, widely acknowledged to be much more sophisticated than Honda's system.

That said, technological superiority is often lost on consumers that go for image over substance, and if Honda's perceived to be the "greener" brand, they may win out in the end.

Re: perception. Perhaps. But Ford seems to be rising among consumer interest. Look at the success of the Fusion hybrid versus the Camry hybrid.

Personally Honda has always been knows as a fuel efficient brand...no arguing there. However, as stated before Ford has become twice a fierce competitor in the last couple of years and to be pushing for 2nd place in a hybrid war when they use to relly on trucks and SUV's for sales, goes to show how much Ford has pushed for the "green" movement. People trust Ford now more than ever and I Honda's models are boring compared to what Ford has been bringing out. I doubt Honda will win this war, specially when Ford is determined to return to profitability....do I see green for Ford in the 3rd quarter???
