That’s the philosophy of Fiat and Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne, and he wants every employee of the “new” Chrysler to understand that.
As an example:in the days after Chrysler moved out of bankruptcy, workers returned to factories that sported new, fresh coats of paint and large banners that read, “World Class Manufacturing. Welcome Back Chrysler Group LLC employees.” Fiat employees have been visiting Chrysler’s North American plants to identify and destroy waste. Nothing is ignored. It is said that the task has even focused on the movement of workers while they do their job.
Other examples include workers are being re-organized into teams of 10 and taught to perform all the jobs instead of just one; each plant must meet 20 levels or pillars of excellence; and pillar leaders, team leaders, supervisors and other managers in must attend four days of intense training. In no uncertain terms the goal of Mr. Marchionne is to create a company that utilizes the most flexible, cost effective way of manufacturing vehicles.
Chrysler workers are said to be surprised by the changes but willing to comply since they feel this could be the company’s last chance.
