Have you ever heard of a “chicken feather meal?”

It is the waste left over after a chicken is processed. People say that 11 billion pounds of feather meal is produced in the U.S. every year and is used as animal feed and fertilizer.

Now it is being reported that scientists in Nevada have figured out a way to convert the waste into biodiesel. According to Science News, a feather meal contains as much as 12 percent fat and it is the fat that is used to make biodiesel.

Researchers say that 153 million gallons of biodiesel could be made a year in the U.S. and 593 million gallons worldwide.
