Ford S-Max: Mazda 5 Competitor?

Motor Trend got some details of European-only Ford S-Max crossover.

Per Motor Trend:

When our spy photographers brought back these shots of a revised Ford S-Max MPV strolling high above in the European Alps, we thought they were joking. Still, have a close look and keen eyes will point out some subtle changes to Ford of Europe's much-loved people-mover.

Our take? With the success of the Mazda5, we think there may be a venerable market for this compact minivan/crossover. What do you think?

Ford should bring it over...and not tart it up in so doing. From what I've read it handles like a VW GTI. Saw one parked outside of the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit. Perfect size/package. Much better looking than the Toyota Venza which at least looks somewhat too big and is certainly overdone. Also much better looking than the Mazda 5, which seems like it could tip over at any moment. The S Max looks sophisticated but practical. Just make sure it has a powerful enough engine - and all models have a 5 seat option (or even 4)-- this shouldn't be an economy/utility van.

I just spent 7 days driving in southern France in an Smax with 6 adults and this car was fantastic. Ford should sell this in the US.

I Smax I drove had the diesel engine and 6 speed manual. This car, fully loaded, drove exceptionally well on the autoroute as well as winding country roads. The diesel engine has tons of torque and gives unbelievable acceleration a lower RPM ranges.

I wouldn't believe this was a Ford if I drove this without the badges. It's nothing like an American Ford and drives like a VW or better.
