Nissan takes Electric Car road; avoids Toyota Prius, Honda Insight Hybrids

So, with the world striving to go green, the hybrid and the electric car become all that more important. Toyota and Honda seems to have led the way with the hybrids. And as a result of their success, many companies have decided that it would be foolish to compete with them with hybrid models of their own. Instead, these companies may be turning to the pure electric vehicle.

One company that is adopting this strategy is Nissan.

Execs are saying that the EV is a “more persuasive technology” than the gasoline-electric hybrid. And that is what Nissan will be focusing on. Nissan said that it will offer its first electric vehicle in the U.S. in 2010 and will offer it to the mass global market in 2012.

Meanwhile, Toyota and Honda continue forward with their hybrids. Both companies plan to release new hybrid models in 2010. Toyota is developing a hybrid version of the Yaris and Honda is working on a hybrid Fit.
