SUVs, abandoned by Americans, find Eager home in China

Let’s face it. Large SUVs are no longer popular in the U.S. On the consumer side, the vehicle simply drank up too much gasoline.
Dealerships lots are full of these vehicles and they couldn’t sell them regardless of the incentives.
So one might think it is somewhat surprising that SUVs are selling well in China. Gasgoo reports that, through January and February of this year, SUV sales in China rose by 5 percent. Only minibuses, minitrucks, and light trucks beat it in the sales wars.
A major reason why SUVs are so popular is that the Chinese economy has caused the growth in the number of rich people and they look at the SUV as a status symbol. More than 10 SUV models will be introduced into China in 2009. These include the Volvo XC60, Lexus RX350, the Acura RDX, and models will also be coming from FAW Toyota, Shanghai, Volkswagen, Hainan Mazda, and GAC Toyota.
