It appears that auto theft as a whole declined in Michigan in 2007 according to statistics from the Automobile Theft Prevention Authority and a group called Help Eliminate Auto Thefts (H.E.A.T.).

The latter organization pointed to better anti-theft technologies now used on cars for the decline. Theft Prevention Authority concludes the same as well. According to TPA:

•    Auto thefts decreased in Michigan by 16.5 percent from 2006 through 2007.
•    The 2000 Dodge Intrepid was the most stolen vehicle in Michigan in 2007.
•    August, July and June were the months with the highest auto thefts. The top three days of the week were Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
•    Detroit is the highest ranking city in Michigan for auto thefts.

Michigan cities that experienced declines in auto theft in 2007 included Dearborn, Flint, Muskegon, and Lansing.

Michigan cities that experienced a rise in thefts included Pontiac, Taylor, Flint Township, and Troy.

A report from the organization showed the 2000 Dodge Intrepid was the most popular vehicle for thieves, who prefer black, blue and white vehicles over other colors.
