Case in point: Chrysler and Mitsubishi. The two have been allies since 1970, with Chrysler selling Mitsubishi vehicles under its brands and Mitsubishi having access to Chrysler technology. In 2005, Mitsubishi sold Dodge trucks under its Mitsubishi Raider line.
And the reason for this future breakup? Writes The Mainichi Daily News:
Should Mitsubishi decide to part ways with Chrysler, it would end an alliance that has existed since Mitsubishi Motors was established in 1970. Mitsubishi management is leaning toward ending the affiliation as, on top of Chrysler's financial difficulties and subsequent plea to the U.S. government for a bailout, the Japanese carmaker sees no synergistic effect resulting from continuing the partnership.
