Despite the gloomy forecasts for General Motors, it continues to introduce innovations. Take, for example, its new four-cylinder and V-6 engines.
GM announced that a 2.4 liter four-cylinder direct injection engine is slated for the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox and a 3.0 liter V-6 direct injected engine will be used on the 2010 Cadillac SRX and the 2010 Buick LaCrosse. A turbocharged version of the four-cylinder has been used on the Saturn Red Line and the Pontiac Solstice GXP. The new four will generate 180 horsepower and 172 lb-ft of torque. It will also feature dished pistons. It is expected that the Equinox equipped with this engine will achieve 30 mpg on the highway which could be good enough for a Best In Class rating, says GM.The new V-6 is a smaller version of the 3.6 liter DI engine that appears on the Lambda SUVs and the Cadillac CTS. It is said that this engine produces 255 horsepower and 214 lb-ft of torque.
