So the American auto industry finds itself in a deep, deep hole and they have no one else to blame but themselves, right? They make lousy cars and unsafe cars and .... Wait a minute. Unsafe cars?
Well, Ford Motor Company begs to differ.
According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, Ford vehicles have been rated some of the safest around. In the IIHS's “Top Safety Picks” and for 2009, the domestic automaker has the most winning models -- 16. Honda was ranked second with 13 and General Motors and Toyota tied for third with 8 each.
Ford has also won praise from Consumer Reports, which states that the quality of Ford cars were even with that of Toyota and Honda.
The Insurance Institute acknowledged the Ford, Mercury, Lincoln and Volvo as well as Mazda and the F-150 pickup.
General Motors was also honored with winners that included the Cadillac CTS, the Buick Enclave, the Chevrolet Traverse, the GMC Acadia and the Saturn Outlook.
Our take? So what is it that people are saying about the U.S. automakers? They don’t make quality and safe cars? Oh, yeah?
