Japanese To Cut Car Production

The myth that the auto crisis is just affecting the Detroit Three is just that -- a myth.

Foreign car makers are going through the same misery as our guys. Let’s face it: sales are horrible for everyone. There are too many cars in the lots and not enough buyers.

We know that the Detroit Three have cut production. Now we are getting word that Toyota and Nissan are, too. According to the Detroit News, they have cut production back here in the States by as much as 25 percent. There is talk that Toyota might delay the start of production of the new Prius at its new Mississippi facility.

Is just as bad overseas. Nissan has said that it will cut production by 72,000 vehicles in Japan. That is over and above the earlier cut of 200,000 units announced at the end of October!

Our take? As far as the worldwide auto industry is concerned, it seems that the optimum phrase is, “Buddy, can you spare a dime?”
