More than 110,000 of their brethren are out of work. Worse, there is talk that another 250,000 jobs will be lost next year if General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler were forced to shutdown half of their U.S. plants.
However, pundits say that many laid off auto workers intended to retire anyway. And for workers who wish to continue to work, they say that there are jobs available.
If ex-workers don’t mind making a move, there are companies in other regions of the country looking for engineers, machinists, and skill trade workers. For example, there's demand in Houston, Texas and Louisiana.
