2011 Porsche Boxster to go Four-Cylinders

Porsche isn’t really defined by its fuel efficiency—it’s really an on-the-road masculine symbol for men in their later years, which is all good.

However, for the first time ever, Porsche is cranking out a four-cylinder engine. The 2011 Porsche Boxster will be the most economical Porsche ever with a 2.7 liter, four-cylinder engine, which emits 222g/km of CO2. Not great by “clean” standards but decent considering we’re talking about a Porsche.

The engine will, of course, be turbocharged to compensate, but the big kicker is that the Boxster is expected to be significantly lighter than predecessors.

Our take? A necessary business decision, especially with Europe pressing down on emissions.
