Sporting various parts bin body panels and looking very much in the guise of a typical testing mule, the concept doesn't offer much in the way of hints of the look of the finished product.
Its overall proportions, however, signal the change that has already been confirmed: the new Explorer will no longer be a body-on-frame SUV. Uni-body construction would proved the Explorer more interior space, better NVH, ride and handling, as well promote better economy from its lighter weight. Fuel economy savings, in fact, could be as much as 25% over the current model.
Though the actual looks of the car remain secret, don't be surprised to see it sporting bodywork derived from the Explorer America concept.
Our take? A truly important model for Ford, the Explorer has the kind of brand name that they cannot afford to tarnish the way they did with the Taurus.
