She is a 57-year old British woman who has constructed a rocket car. While rocket cars are nothing new, regular Joes or, in this case, Jane, building one is something else. Ms Campbell spent 40,000 pounds, or nearly $60,000, and took five years to design and build the car -- from scratch.
And what a car! Four hybrid rockets that are fueled with nitrous oxide and biofuels produce a thrust of 8,000 pounds. The rocket car can go 0-100 miles per hour in less than half a second, and can attain speeds of 300 miles per hour.
Did we say that Campbell built the car? Well, she also drives it. She has got it up to 200 miles per hour. No retirement house for this enthusiasts. She hopes to tour Europe and perform with the car.
