For every top ten so-called "best cars" listed, there's an equal number, in not more, of vehicles that'll make buyers pause (and not in a good way).
Many of these make what are called "hated" lists. Some of America’s most hated cars are, in reality, the most neglected and has nothing to do with the quality of the car in question.
Buyers, by and large, prefer to make the same, safe choices over time rather than branch out into something that might be more new or exciting. Consumers develop lasting impressions of various models and at times perceive nonexistent quality issues. There are also some models or brands that have been stigmatized by past quality issues and deserve a second chance that isn’t instantly forthcoming, such as the Kia Rio. Buyers are also starting to treat car purchases like buying a household appliance: You get what fits your needs, not necessarily something you love.
But here is a complied list of the least purchased automobiles in the 10 major vehicle segments defined by J.D. Power and Associates:
- Acura RL (midsize premium car)
- Audi A3 (entry premium vehicle)
- Dodge Magnum (large car)
- Jaguar XJ (large premium car)
- Kia Rio (subcompact car)
- Mazda Tribute (compact multi-activity vehicle)
- Mitsubishi Galant (midsize car)
- Saab 9-7x (midsize premium multi-activity vehicle)
- Saturn Sky (compact sporty car)
- Volkswagen Rabbit (compact car)
