It next series of cars are arguably exactly what it needs to bring itself back into the black. Unfortunately, the companyis so strapped for cash and desperate to preserve what it has that it may have to delay the introduction of the very models that can save it.
While the likely delay of the Chevrolet Malibu replacement is a setback, it is nowhere as bad as the possible delay of the Cruze. Successor to the long-in-the-tooth Chevy Cobalt, the compact is consider one answer to GM's prayers for more cash as Americans continue to hunker down to high gas prices. If the possible 2011 delayed introduction were to come to fruition, the car would arrive on the market one year later than expected and a full two years after Europeans first sample the wares.
Our Take? GM is treading on a slippery slope if it holds off on introducing a car that may actually make money.
