The road trip. With the price of gas as high as it was, it appeared that the good old American tradition of taking a road trip in one’s car seemed to be fading away from our memories.

But for some, it still is the best way to make family trips

So in these days what cars are the best for road trips? Some car magazine editors are selecting these cars:

•    The Volkswagen Eos. Gas mileage is said to be 22 miles in the city and 29 miles on the highway.  A four seater, the Eos is also has a retractable hardtop convertible which can make the trip a little bit more fun.
•    The Mitsubishi Lancer. The 2.0 liter, 152 horsepower engine has gas mileage figures of about 22 miles in the city and 29 miles on the highway.
•    The Chevrolet Malibu. Three engines power the Malibu: a 169 horsepower, 2.4 liter, 4-cylinder engine; a 252 horsepower, 3.6 liter V6 engine; and a Malibu hybrid with fuel efficiency rating of 17 miles in the city and 26 miles per gallon on the highway. The base model comes with an XM Satellite Radio, so there is some decent entertainment as you make the trip. The Malibu is said to be an “excellent car for the highway.”
•    The Chrysler Sebring. Like the Eos, it comes with a convertible top. The choice of engine include a 173 horsepower, 2.4 liter inline V6 or a 189 horsepower, 2.7 liter V6. Gas mileage is 21 in the city and 28 on the highway.

What do you think of the above choices? Would you recommend any other vehicles?
