They were Ford and General Motors. Those companies had plants in Europe that were churning out small cars for the European market. Thus it was not difficult for them to start in the process of selecting and importing some of these cars to America.
Unfortunately, Chrysler has been unable to make the transition because it does not have any foreign plants that are making smaller cars. The smallest and privately owned corporation has spent the past few months looking for partners and allies to make up for the shortfall.
Now comes word that Chrysler has partnered with Chinese auto maker Great Wall Motor Company to produce and export from China to the U.S. a small car. In fact, this car is expected to be sold all around the world and carry a Chrysler badge.
Chrysler had made previous agreements with Nissan and Chery that they would provide smaller cars for Chrysler to sell. But it seems that the first small cars will be coming from Great Wall. No one is yet sure how this will affect Chrysler’s agreements with Nissan and Chinese automaker Chery.
