2009 Suzuki Equator expands the Nissan Frontier

Automaker Suzuki has chosen to capitalize on the failings of the large truck market by introducing... a truck.

Realizing that there will still be those individuals who will need a truck regardless of the economy, Suzuki hopes its rebadged Nissan Frontier will be able to take some of those sales.

With no compact trucks on the market, they now seem to be the “rational” choice for the current economic conditions. Still capable, but with the thriftiness of a V6 and more manageable exterior dimensions, the Equator provide everything that most truck owners require anyway.

The Equator is set to be offered as an extended cab with a longer bed, and a 4-door with a shorter bed. Motors are a 152-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder base engine and a 261-horsepower 4.0-liter V6 option. All transmissions are 5-speeds, though the V6 is only available with an automatic.

Outside of the badge engineering, the truck provides everything the Nissan Frontier does.

Our take? It may prove to be a better choice, especially with Suzuki's superior warranty coverage.
