Something that resembles a grown-up station wagon, SUV and a hatchback, the Ford Flex crossover has joined the pile of not-so-hot vehicles that are failing to sell in the present economic climate.
According to eGMCarTech, the automaker initially expected the Flex to sell around 70,000-100,000 units annually, but that has proven to be overly optimistic as sales fall just short of 30,000.
So now Ford is offering a $2,500 rebate in most North American regions. The 2009 Ford Flex starts at $28,295.
Our take? Was Ford trying to create a new niche? It isn’t an SUV and it isn’t a compact, with the latter selling like hot cakes. The Flex is increasingly looking like a victim of ill-timing than design aspirations.
