For those of you who remember the movie “The Graduate”, there is a great scene in which the subject of the movie, Benjamin, played by Dustin Hoffman, is receiving business advice from a friend of his parents. The man says, “Plastics, enough said.”

Well these days, it is “Electric cars, enough said.” General Motors -- with the Chevrolet Volt -- and Chrysler’s recent EV surprise a few days ago, that more and more car manufacturers are saying electric is the future.

Now comes word from Blorge that "no, we are not Land Rover" Range Rover has seen its future, and it also is electric. The car maker is working on a prototype electric vehicle that has a range of 200 miles on one charge. The vehicle includes solar panels on the roof to keep the batteries charged and the panels will also power many of the vehicle’s electronics.

It is being reported that a production model could be offered as early as next year. The price tag is expected to be $174,850.

Execs at Land Rover say that the car will use 80 percent less power to run than a gasoline-powered version. And it is expected that buyers of the vehicle will get a tax break.

Our take? There are reports that Tata-owned Land Rover may be looking into hybrids. Will there be a day when both Rovers go head to head on some sorta EV race?
