Toyota turns to Exports to Survive Low U.S. Sales

Toyota, which, too, has been hit the dismal financial and slow sales afflicting all automakers, is looking to the U.S. for salvation.

Huh?

It is well known that the Japanese automaker has a number of manufacturing plants in the U.S. constructing vehicles not only for the domestic market but also for export. It is the latter that Toyota hopes to help it survive the current economic doldrums.

Sales of light trucks and cars in the U.S. dropped 32.3 percent from this period last year. That 30 percent plus drop is the worst in 21 years.  As a result of dismal sales, Toyota has actually closed portions of production lines at three U.S. plants since August.

So Toyota is taking said excess and sending them elsewhere. The trucks are expected to be exported to Latin America and the Middle East. Plans call for the Sienna minivan, which is made in Indiana, to go to Latin America; the Sequoia SUV, also manufactured in Indiana, is going to the Middle East; and the Tacoma pickup truck made in California, will be exported to Mexico.
