We already know that General Motors’ first electric car will be the Chevrolet Volt. But now comes word that an electric car will also be offered by Opel, General Motors European brand.

The Opel electric car will, of course, be a plug in and will carry the same powertrain that will be on the Volt. But the car itself will have its own distinct style.

It is said Opel will be offering its electric car to the European market within just a few months after the expected release of the Volt in late 2010. GM said that it will help to create an infrastructure that would allow for the charging of the vehicle.

Our take? Diesel Volt, anyone?
