Should You Buy the Same Car Twice?

Why on earth would any sane person buy the exact same car twice?

You might find it a farfetched prospect in this age of credit crunches and diminishing income, but many people do exactly that.

The most common time this occurs is when people to trade in their leased vehicle and find that they really don’t want anything else. But instead of buying the now used -- and often times out of warranty car, truck or SUV -- they go ahead and plop into a new lease with the exact same model. “At least the color can be different,” these people will often times think to themselves.

Boring.

While knowing the ins and outs of your vehicle can be soothing to those who always buy the exact same brand jeans or even soda pop year in and year out, a little change never hurt anyone. Think of  it this way. Will you be 85 when you pass on, 65 or will it be 2 years from now? None of us know anything for certain, so why not go a little crazy and try a crossover after years of pickup trucks, move to a sedan from that hatchback, or even better, sell that Chevy Suburban or Toyota Sequoia and get a Honda Fit or Suzuki Swift. Probably 7 out of 10 of those drivers will get just what they need from the Honda or Swift. How many times have you seen a person driving a Sequoia, alone? Lots, we suppose.

How many cars do you think you will have the privilege and pleasure of owning in a lifetime? Twenty? Fifteen? It all depends on you but just realize it is a finite number. In addition, you should revel in the depth and breadth of choice you have in today’s market as future generations may all be forced to drive a self-steering Toyota Prius.

Our view? There is nothing wrong with really liking the car you are driving now. But in all honesty, don’t you think you would be constantly comparing your vehicle’s doppelganger to its predecessor? And that sort of expectation never leads to contentment.
