With the world looking for more fuel efficient modes of transportation, it should not be surprising to learn that BMW will be drastically reducing its production of larger engines and will develop more smaller, fuel efficient engines.
Execs for BMW admit that demand for the largest engines -- 8-, 10-, and 12-cylinder -- is declining steadily. Those larger engines will be phased out as well as 6-cylinder engines. Emphasis will be on 4-cylinder engines.
Our take? Don't expect a reduction in power, though. BWM is already coupling its inline 4s with turbo to provide both speed and fuel-economy.
