Porsche, Volkswagen Heads No Show at Union Talks

Since the takeover of Volkswagen by Porsche is just about inevitable, execs from the two companies will be meeting to talk about employee representation.

Perhaps this will result in peace in our time. Weirdly, both chairmen refuse to take any part in any reconciliation meeting. Head of VW’s work council Bernd Osterioh said that he will not attend the meeting unless Porsche makes concessions to VW workers, been the most upset about the purchase, ahead of time.

Those attending the meeting are expected to be Martin Winterkorn, chief of VW, and Horst Neumann, personnel chief of VW as well as Wendelin Wiedeking, head of Porsche, and Porsche’s finance chief, Holger Haerter.

Our take? It doesn’t look as though there will be peace in our time regardless of what goes on at this meeting. The Volkswagen work council is fighting Porsche in court trying to get its workers more say at Porsche. The VW workers argue that they are drastically underrepresented at the holding company that owns Porsche and will be taking control of VW.
