More and more auto makers of the world are committing to making electric cars
Perhaps General Motors' upcoming Chevy Volt -- and all the hype it has been able to muster -- has helped to turn auto makers into believing in the electric car.
Whatever the case, now comes word that Volt could have some competition from Mazda. Sources are saying that the automaker's engineers are working feverishly on an electric vehicle that uses a rotary engine to charge the battery.
The only thing that seems to be holding Mazda back is the current cost of batteries.
The working prototype is said to be in the body of a Mazda5 crossover.
Mazda is already involved in making its vehicles "green", utilizing such technology like stop-start.
Our take? General Motors has yet to release the Volt for production and competition is already heating up. As usually, the consumer benefits as automakers rush to be green to get more green (as in cash).
