Honda Civic taps Lotus for Racing Hybrid

British motorsports Oaktec, known for its engineering, tuning, and chassis prowess, has gone on and contracted Lotus to develop the Honda Civic hybrid into a viable race car.

Lotus is to be focused on the hybrid powertrain, especially in coaxing more power from it as well strengthening its regenerative braking. The CVT remains.

Oaktec has been playing with the hybrid racecar concept since 2004, and has even claimed a class victory with a Honda Insight.

Our take? It would be nice to see Honda themselves go forward with something similar. It isn't as if they're lacking in their own engineering, chassis development, and racing abilities.
