ANAHEIM, Calif. – (September, 2008) Hot concept cars are all the rage at the OC Auto Show, taking place Thursday, October 2 through Sunday, October 5, at the Anaheim Convention Center. From the four-wheel star of the blockbuster movie TRANSFORMERS™ to the latest in advanced powertrains, consumers will see striking designs that offer a glimpse into the future of automotive design.
“The OC Auto Show is the perfect place for consumers to see the hottest concepts with the newest technologies and designs that incorporate the latest trends and automotive hot buttons,” said Orange County Auto Show’s Co-Director Todd Leutheuser. “These concepts get people talking and this buzz helps manufacturers determine what designs, styles and fuel-saving technologies will be a hit with the public.”
Concept vehicles scheduled to be on display at the auto show include the Saturn Flextreme, Chevrolet “Bumblebee” Camaro, Ford Explorer America and more. (Vehicles subject to change.) With the increasing popularity of green concept cars, General Motors will showcase the Saturn Flextreme concept, powered by an electric motor and lithium-ion batteries that get 34 miles of electric driving. Polycarbonate is used throughout this concept in the trim, windshield, window and rooftop to increase aerodynamic efficiency and decrease vehicle weight. Additionally, the Flextreme’s rear features futuristic, practical design elements including the FlexDoors system with rear doors that move up and down, as well as side-to-side, so that doors can be opened when parked in tight spaces. These doors are complimented by the FlexLoad system, a floor that automatically extends outside the vehicle when the rear hatch is open.
Fans of the movie TRANSFORMERS™ will not want to miss the Chevrolet Bumblebee™ Camaro, the automotive brainchild of General Motors and Hollywood. Since its debut in the 2007 movie, Bumblebee has become an international mega-star, as well as a hit on the auto show circuit. This celebrity status and unique retro styling make the sexy muscle car a must-see at the OC Auto Show!
The Ford Explorer America concept was created to address the changes in the SUV market over the past 15 years, shifting from rugged off-roaders to civilized suburban people haulers. The concept features a bold exterior with integrated three-bar grille, wrap-around rear glass panel window and sliding rear doors. Inside the six-passenger cabin are intelligent features including one-touch, stackable rear seats, a removable worktable in the rear hatch and 3-D compass, navigation and topographical unit in the dash. Under the hood, the Explorer America showcases an advanced EcoBoost engine that Ford says is able to achieve 20-30 percent better fuel economy without sacrificing performance.
