This may come as a surprise, but the Indian auto industry is ranked 10th in the world.

It is said that India has an annual car production of 2 million. To put that number in perspective, the total for the world is 73 million.

Domestic companies such as Tata and Mahindra & Mahindra are at a pace to become one of the top auto industries in the world by 2012. Moreover, the country is the largest motorcycle manufacturer and fifth largest commercial vehicle manufacturer.

Still, more is that the world auto makers like General Motors, Volkswagen, Honda and Hyundai have plants in India and all have announced expansion plans.

Additional details can be found at the original article. Our take? When one says that India is a leader in the automobile industry, don’t challenge them.

It would be interesting to see how India does in terms of it's automobiles. However if their cars look anything like that then good luck. Man that thing is ugly.
