Where Chrysler Is Going Wrong

As car manufacturers develop strategies to lift themselves out of the current sales slump, Chrysler has developed its own strategy that some pundits are marking “risky.”

What does that mean? Well, the automaker is making deals with Asian and European automakers to sell their cars in the U.S. For example, Chrysler will be putting its nameplate on restyled Nissan models of the Versa. There's even talk that the troubled automaker may be selling a version of the Altima, too.

Furthermore, there appears to be a plan afoot for Chrysler to build a version of a Dodge Ram for Nissan and a minivan for Volkswagen.

Pundits are saying that all these actions is destroying Chrysler’s reputation as an innovator. After all, it was Chrysler that was the first with the minivan as well as the SUV in the guise of the Jeep Grand Cherokee. And what about the Dodge Ram pick up and the PT Cruiser? They opened up eyes due to their design during the 1990s and earned billions of dollars for Chrysler.

Our take? Pundits say that auto industry partnerships tend to fall apart. We guess you can point to DaimlerChrysler among others as proof of this. But, then again, this could be a stop gap by Cerberus to keep Chrysler alive until they decide what to do with it.
