With the sales of autos increasing rapidly in nations such as China and India, the ability of Suzuki to provide a desirable small car and -- more significantly one -- that can compete price-wise with the likes of the Tata Nano is paramount to its success.
The car is in fact a replacement for the Alto, the best selling car in India.
Don't think Suzuki isn't considering other countries, though. The production version will also be an important offering in Europe, where its 109 g/km would allow it to fly under European limits and free owners from the heavy taxes European governments like to levy on anyone who purchases less than clean automobiles.
Our take? The A-star will not reach the US, and thank goodness as there's no way that little motor would provide sufficient thrust for that car to travel on America's highways.
