No Toyota Supra, likely no LF-A, Either No Supra, likely no LF-A either

The LF-A, Toyota's supposed answer to the mighty Nissan GT-R, now seems to have suffered the same fate of the cancelled Supra.
A $225,000 price tag would still see Toyota losing money on each unit, but the credibility as a performance car maker that would have been lost with each unit was even harder to overcome. Insiders say that the car simply would not have been competitive with the GT-R or the upcoming ZR-1 and new Acura NSX.
Considering the level of development (to the extent of participating in 24 hour races) and the untold sums of money, Toyota simply could not unleash a car at that price point that wasn't a new standard bearer in the way the GT-R has been.
Our take? Perhaps this is prof positive of just how far Nissan has moved the goal for the world's sports car manufacturers, and just how much General Motors should be praised for meeting the GT-R head on with the Chevrolet ZR-1.
