Ford looks to Axe Taurus X, Mercury Sable

Ford Motor Co. has to figure out ways to save. It's culled factories, workers, and even designs. Where, oh where, to continue cutting? (Apparently selling great cars is not enough for stockholder who need their monthly dividends.)

One way is to cut models from its stable. Pundits have hinted recently that the auto maker will be dropping the Mercury Sable and the Taurus X.

Ford will neither confirm nor deny the report at this time. Our take? We're not really surprised. The Taurus X's days were numbered with the more hip Ford Flex now available, while the Mercury Sable did not dress enough to impress compared to its near-identical -- but less expensive -- Ford Taurus sibling. The Sable's also a dinosaur desperately needing to go extinct as Ford moves the brand to sell compacts and small crossovers.
