Chrysler is now joining the ranks of hybrid producers as painfully high gas prices bring about new market realities.
Chrysler’s Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) system was developed in a joint partnership with GM, Daimler, and BMW. The HEV system is capable of electric only, gas only, or a combination of the two, in a similar manner to the Toyota Hybrid system.
The hybrid powertrain will be offered on the Dodge Durango truck and Chrysler Aspen SUV.
“The implementation of this new manufacturing process was done intelligently, with both quality and cost in mind,” said Joe Ozdowy, Plant Manager of Newark Assembly. “I’d like to congratulate and thank the team for their dedication while bringing these important new products to market to help satisfy the changing needs of our Dodge and Chrysler customers.”
Our take? While the minstrels may be singing Chrysler’s death anthem, the American car company certainly does not seem ready to be buried just yet.
