Chevrolet Volt gets inside Saturn Astra

While we here the US await eagerly the arrival of the Chevy Volt, the Brits seem to already have some insider info.

Apparently, the prototypes will be Opel Astra-based. There's even the possibility of the Volt itself even being spun off the platform. Weight distribution is said to be a sports car like 50:50, though the curb weight is a hefty 3520 pounds.

A shame really, as a lighter car would've been that much more efficient, though the weight isn't far from typical of the similarly sized vehicles.

Our take? It must have a lot of batteries in the trunk to make what would otherwise be a nose heavy package balanced. Probably mediocre to drive in the twisties as well, far to much inertia .
